Bishop William Lamberton - Lamberton is an example of a mediaeval church politician who put patriotism before piety, being active in the cause of independence both openly and covertly. He made many promises to the Edwards of England, but at the same time was nominated to the see of St Andrews by Wallace. He crowned Bruce and became a guardian of the Scottish castles. He completed the building of the Cathedral and officiated at its consecration in 1318.
